Have you ever been pulled over by a police officer or come back to your vehicle and got a parking citation for an expired license plate?

You walk to the back of your vehicle and notice that your license plate registration decal is missing. You know you renewed and paid for your registration before it expired and put on the renewal decal yourself, but someone stole your decal. This is very upsetting and frustrating because the system punishes you instead of the thief (citation fee, replacement decal cost, police report, waste of your time and money). 

Each year over 500,000 license plate registration decals are stolen in the U.S. Vehicle owners do not notice until they are pulled over by a police officer or they get a parking ticket citation for an expired license decal.

When your license place registration decal is stolen, you are driving around with an expired license plate until a replacement decal is put on. You are forced to deal with a few different issues.

1. Citation From Police or Parking Officer.
You have to pay the fee within specified time frame (usually 30 days) or contest it by going in person to local clerk of court location (with a copy of your registration) or mailing it in. Even after showing proof that you have registration, citation will be voided but most clerk offices will still charge a cancellation charge to void the citation. Result = Waste of your time and money.

2. File a Police Report
In order to get a replacement decal and not pay full price, a police report is required. You will have to go report the crime and file a police report in the city that decal was stolen. Result = Waste of your time and money.

3. Get a Replacement Decal
In order to get a replacement decal you can either take or mail in the police report to the particular DMV office, fill out forms, present your driver's license and registration. After doing all of this, you will get a replacement decal for a replacement fee. Some DMV locations are unable to print replacement decal on the spot and it will be mailed to use. Meanwhile you are driving around with an expired license plate. Result = Waste of your time and money.

After doing all these steps and replacing stolen decal, your decal is still vulnerable of being stolen again in the future.
